The Amazon Donation Program for The Arc

To support the goals of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to participate in today's plugged-in world and live independently, Amazon has partnered with The Arc to provide Echo Show devices and Fire tablets to their chapter organizations to distribute to people with disabilities.

Unfortunately, there are no more devices available to distribute in The Amazon Donation Program for The Arc. All of the 5,000 devices allocated for this program have been distributed to the chapters of The Arc throughout the United States.

Who Is Eligible for This Offer

The Amazon Donation Program for The Arc is only available to the state and local chapters of The Arc. Organizations must also be registered U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofits.

Donated devices are intended to be given directly to the people the chapters of The Arc support on a case-by-case basis and are not intended for the use of the organizations that receive them. Products included in this offer may not be distributed to government agencies, law enforcement agencies, or public safety agencies.

Recipient Considerations

The Arc’s initiatives and programs touch almost every aspect of life for people in the IDD community. By sharing their knowledge and conducting training and events, their programs and initiatives help connect communities and inform efforts to broaden inclusion across the country. The Arc encourages its chapters to consider the following points before sharing donated Amazon devices with their community.

  • The recipient will need working Wi-Fi with high-speed internet in order for the device to work.
  • The recipient will also need to have access to a smartphone or tablet with internet access and the capability to download and run the Alexa app (available on iOS, Android, and Fire OS devices).

These will be the ideal scenarios for using these devices:

  • A recipient or household looking to learn more about technology and its use in their everyday life.
  • A recipient or household looking to use the assistive technology to enhance independence or gain skills.
  • A recipient or household working with a chapter staff member or disability professional who can discuss how to best incorporate an Amazon device into their individualized goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of organizations are eligible for this program?

Only chapters of The Arc are eligible. Devices are donated directly to these expert organizations that work one-on-one with members of the IDD community.

Why is this program only available for The Arc and the chapters in its network?

This is Amazon and The Arc’s first national partnership. Through this pilot, Amazon hopes to continue to learn how its devices can help support the needs of the IDD community and continue to scale its impact.

At any point will this program be open to all organizations that serve those with intellectual and developmental disabilities?

Currently, there are no plans to open this program up to other organizations that serve the IDD community.

Where can my organization learn more about the products offered in this program?

The Echo Show and Fire tablet are offered as part of this program.

What is TechSoup's administrative fee for the Amazon for Nonprofits program?

A small administrative fee of $8 per Amazon device is required, and this fee goes directly to TechSoup. Please note that the administrative fee for these products is not refundable, and the products cannot be exchanged.

Why is a TechSoup administrative fee required? I thought Amazon was donating these devices.

While Amazon is donating these devices to eligible organizations, TechSoup's administrative fee helps cover TechSoup's operational costs. TechSoup is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and the fee allows TechSoup to continue to offer donated and discounted technology products to nonprofits around the world.

How many devices total is Amazon donating as part of this program?

Through a 12-month cycle, Amazon is donating up to 5,000 devices (Echo devices and Fire tablets). Device requests are fulfilled on a first-come, first-served basis and while supplies last.

What is the maximum number of devices that each organization can request?

Each chapter has a maximum allotted quantity of 50 devices and may request up to 25 devices from each product line. Both devices come in bundles of five. We encourage eligible organizations to request devices on an as-needed basis. You can place as many requests as needed, as long as the total quantity for all of your requests does not exceed 50 devices. Donated devices are intended to be given directly to end users on a case-by-case basis and are not intended for the use of the organizations that receive them.

How long will it take for my organization to receive devices?

Once an organization completes the TechSoup checkout process, TechSoup will notify Amazon to begin fulfillment. This fulfillment process will take 6 to 8 weeks to complete. Please note that larger shipments may be split and may arrive on different dates.
